Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Yard Tractor question, huskee lawn tractor, starter solenoid

Question
Good day,

I am not sure if this something that you can assist with, but thought that I'd ask, anyway...

I have a Huskee lawn tractor with 14.5HP B&S motor, approximately 5-6 years old.  We recently had the ignition switch, starter, solenoid, and battery replaced (battery purchased 2 days ago).  The problem is that the motor is barely turning over, as if the battery is dying.

I had placed the battery on the charger, and tested it with a voltmeter, and it is fine.  I noticed a drop of about 4 volts when the ignition is turned, but the battery doesn't seem to be drained.  The tractor will start when jumped using cables from a car/truck....

I am unable to figure out what is causing the tractor from not starting, and any input would be appreciated.

FYI... the starter is a B&S starter, same as the original, and the ignition switch I bought straight from MTD.  The solenoid is a universal one from Tractor Supply, and is the second one from there (the first we bought was a dud).  The battery is a Huskee from TSC.

Thank you for your time.

Stephen

Answer
Hi Stephen,

If the starter turns over fine when you jump it with a known, good battery, I would suspect the battery that you have now.  The starter or solenoid may be drawing too much power but that would show up when jumping.

Let me know how you make out.
