Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower carburator repair, briggs straton, carburator repair

Question
Greetings Michael

Ive cleaned the carb, the float is in tact, without defects as far as I can see, it is not sticking, and the neddle valve seems to be OK,but it still is not holding in the gas, If could see a diagram of how a float works I may be able to fix the problem. I searched the web for a diagram without finding one. From what I can tell the float allows gas to flow thru the carb when the float is all the way up, I checked this by blowing air into the gas inlet tube, with the float up, when the float is down all is restricted. What else do I need to know and do to fix this problem. Please advise,

Thanks

Question -
How do I repair my lawnmower carburator which is flooding, that is gas runs (flows out like there is nothing to stop it)  out of the carburator as soon as I fill the tank, whats the problem. The Carburator is a briggs & straton Walbro LMS 0427 model 9 Thanks

Hi BJ,

The carb's float assembly has a problem.  Remove the carb and or float bowl and check the float.  It may be heavy and fuel logged or a piece or dirt is keeping the float's needle valve and seat from sealing and stopping the fuel flow.

Let me know you make out.

Answer
Hi BJ,

When the float is pushed up by the filled bowl, it shuts off the fuel flow.  As the fuel is used, the float lowers and allows the bowl to remain at a proper fuel level.  If the fuel inlet shuts off when you blow air through it with the float in the closed position, it should stop the fuel flow unless extra float force is being applied for the air test.  I still suspect a leaky needle valve or seat.  All it takes is a slight imperfection to allow a leak.  Try replacing the needle and seat.

Keep me posted.
