Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman drive cable, shiny wear, self propelled mower

Question
I have an old 3.5 craftsman self-propelled mower who's drive cable broke. I purchased a new cable, however since I didn't remove the old one, I'm not sure where it goes. When I removed the cover, there are two places where it can hook into, and also the cable has two nuts, not sure where these go either. Can you offer some help, the diagram on the Sears page doesn't show the drive cable connection. Thanks

Answer
Hi Carmen,

Sorry for my delay.  It was a busy holiday here.

It's hard for me to tell without seeing it.  The nuts may go on the ends of the cable if it is threaded.  As far as where to connect it, try one spot and if it doesn't work, try the other place.  Look for a shiny wear spot where the old cable was connected.

I am swamped with questions and can't give follow up answers until next week.  Sorry.

Good Luck,
Michael
