Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower Gas Smell in garage, craftsman lt1000 riding mower, gas tank

Question
I have a Craftsman LT1000 Riding Mower with no apparent leaks in the gas tank or the fuel lines.  However, when I am done mowing my lawn and put my mower in the garage the whole garage smells like gas.  The tractor runs good so I am assuming that the inline fuel filter is not plugged and I am in the process of changing out the oil filter.  Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hi msh,

If it runs and starts good, then it may not be leaking internally.  You would see an external leak.  I think the odor might be coming from the fuel tank.  The temperature of the fuel and tank may be rising when you shut the mower off.  The fuel would expand and vent through the tank cap.
Sniff around the mower to see if you can pinpoint the origin.  Check the muffler, carb and floor.

Let me know what you find.
