Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Poulan chainsaw fuel lines, carborator, gas tank

Question
The fuel lines on our 2150 Poulan chainsaw disentigrated.  I bought similar sized lines but am not sure what should be hooked where as there wasn't enough of the old lines to see where they ran.  I have a line hooked to the fuel filter in the gas tank going to the carborator but not sure which of two places it should go on the carborator.  I have one line from the primer bulb going  back into the tank and one going to the carborator, but same problem, not sure which of the two places on the carborator it goes.  I have tried both ways and no luck.  Am I totally wrong in how the lines run?  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Annie,

Some saws are configured differently, so I can't say, right off.  I would check the connection at the primer bulb and see if it pushes or pulls (Test with air or fuel).  If it pulls, then that line goes to the fuel filter and the other outlet is the return or vent, which goes back to the tank.

If the primer bulb connection pushes, then the other connection on the carb must draw in, so you would hook THAT end to the filter.

If you get no action from the primer, then there probably are issues inside the carb, like a bad diaphram.  In that case, the carb would need rebuilding.

Let me know how you make out,
Michael
