Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): broken starter cord, starter cord, assembley

I have a Murray Centura push mower 3.8 hp with Tecumsah engine. The starter pull cord broke inside the assembley and came off. I unscrewed the top but can't tell where it would attach. It did break right at the knot on the inside. Cord looks like it rotted. What would you suggest I do?

I recommend for everone who inquires about recoils to take it into a good shop for the repair.  If you haven't repaired one before, it can be more costly and potentially dangerous to try it yourself.  If you are lucky, the shop will let you observe the repair so you can see how it's done.  Hope this helps.
