Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Weed Eater only runs for 10 seconds, weed eater, spark plug

Question
I took out the weed eater this morning and after many pulls it finally started, but died after about 10 seconds. All day I have been going back and trying again and again with no luck. Why would it start at first but now it will not start, not even a putter. It has fresh gas, spark plug is not dirty, filter is clean, gas lines have gas in them, It is a Weed Eater
model # GTI-18T, Please tell me what else I can do. Thank You.

Answer
Hi Deborah,

The carb probably has gummed fuel or dirt inside, causing the fuel to not get to the engine.  You can confirm this by trying to start it as you squirt fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake (Under the air filter). I would also check for spark at the spark plug.  Remove it, re-attach the wire and lay it against the engine head.  Crank the engine over, while a helper watches for spark at the plug's electrode.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
