Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Repairing Small Engines, small engines, lawnmower

Question
I have a craftsman 6.5 HP lawnmower.  It starts (after prime only) and then runs but it does not idle well.  I have replaced the spark plug, changed the oil and replaced the air filter.  The mower sat for two years between uses.

If the carb needs cleaned out, hoe do I do that?

Answer
Hi Patrick,

I would try adjusting the carb's mixture screws.  If no better, then the carb most likely has dirt, debris or gummed fuel inside.  You will need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.   Probe each and every hole with a small wire.   A carb rebuild kit wouldn't hurt either.

Let me know how you make out.
