American Motors: 78 CJ5 Problems, gas gauge, temp gauge

Question
I have a 78 CJ5. About 10 years ago it had an oil leak & my dad & I replaced the rear main. Had to pull the transmission...tons of fun.... Anyway, the gas gauge stopped working at that point. I'm thinking the sending unit might not be working. The gauge was working fine before that. I've recently done some more work to it and been driving it frequently. I noticed that the temp gauge had quit working, after my husband drove it. Haha! It worked fine one day, say for the next day, and then he drove it. I'm not sure if the sending unit went out or what. One more main problem. I noticed on a few occasions, but not all the time, that when I am stopping the Jeep it starts to shutter a little as it about comes to a complete halt. It doesn't do it all the time, but it's beginning to worry me some. I have several other small problems, but I know what those are. Thanks for your help.

Answer
I don't see a question here, but I think you are asking about the following:
1) Gas Gauge not working after transmission removal. Check the wire running to the tank. Disconnect it at the tank, turn on the key, touch the connector to ground. The gauge should go to FULL. If not, the gauge or wiring is bad. If it does go to FULL, replace the sender in the tank.
2) Temp gauge inoperative. Check all your fuses. Check the temp sensor at the engine. Perform the same test you did with the gas gauge.
3) Intermittent shutter when coming to a stop. Hard to say if it is the clutch sticking or the brakes causing it. Where do you feel the shutter? In the seat? In the brake or clutch pedal? Which pedals, if any, are depressed when you feel the shutter? Is the Jeep cold or does it happen after it's been warmed up? How fast are you traveling when it occurs?
Please let me know.
