Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No Spark!, cub cadet 1811, shape thanks

Question
Hi mike, have a cub cadet #1811, bought her in 1989 new. Take good care of her but she's not starting today! Used starting fluid and still would'nt fire up, I only do that when i get frustrated, she usually starts even in the winter. Used her 2 wks ago, ran fine. Does'nt seem to be any spark. Seems to be getting gas. Put 2 new plugs and still no start, could ya help me out mike, we're both getting old but we're still in good shape, thanks for your time, les

Answer
Hi Les,

Check the spark by removing the plug and reconnecting the wire.  Lay the plug against the engine head and pull the engine over while someone watches the plug's electrode.  If still no spark, then check the kill switch (if equipped) at the end of the cable that comes from the handle.  If that's okay then I would suspect the ignition coil and replace it.  It is located under the flywheel.

Let me know how you make out and if you need more info.
Michael
