Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snapper riding mower . No wheel traction, snapper riding mower, forward gears

Question
I have an old snapper riding mower, 1979 vintage Model Type F, 190707, 1177-01, code 79060509, which ran great until the other day when the wheels would turn intermittently and then not at all, this occurs in all 5 forward gears and reverse. The cutting blade turns normal. I replaced the driven disk but that did not help. I suspect I may have to go into the gear box. I would appreciate your diagnosis, and if I must go into the gear box , can you give me some guidance how I should approach. Thanks for you help

Answer
Hi Tom,

I forget if the gearbox and differential are one unit (A transaxle) or separate. If separate, I would look to see if the gearbox is outputting to the rear end.  If one unit, then it would need to be disassembled and inspected.  Unless the mower is in great shape, the time and expense for repair might not be worth it.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
