Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Riding lawn mower, safety switch, lawn mower

Question
I have an older murray riding lawn mower that has been kept in a shed for the past 6 years because when I try to engage the blades to mow, the engine cuts out. I understand that there are a series of 3 or so safey switches that keep the mower safe. The engine stops when the driver gets off the seat and when the key is turned to off. There doesn't seem to be anything wrapped around the shaft and when the mower is running, it shifts into all 5 gears. There is only an issue when I try to engage the blades. Thank you for any light you can shed on fixing this problem.

Answer
You will have to locate the deck safety switch.  The safety switch is usually mounted somewhere on the lever that you use to engage the blades.

Have you check the deck parts for binding?  Maybe the bearings are bad or something is preventing the blades from turning.

Let me know what you find.
