Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 5 Hp Snowblower, air fuel ratio, carberator

Question
Hi Marc : My snow blower stalls under load. I have changed the carberator. And I am still having the problem . I think it may be the second stage thrower is there a clutch some where that can be bad. Or maybe I put the gonerver on the wrong hole but the moter sounds strong. Thank-You

Answer
Stalling under load generally indicates (if the engine is running smoothly otherwise) a lean condition.  Try opening the high speed mixture screw 1/4 of a turn.  Also, the colder it gets outside, the more fuel is required to achieve the correct air/fuel ratio for optimum power.  If you mean that as soon as you engage the blower the engine stalls, you will need to check if bearings or the primary stage gearbox has a problem.  There is no clutch in the gearbox (it is usuall a worm gear drive).  If you detach the drive belt to the blower from the engine, you should be able to turn the blower over by hand using the big input pulley on it.  Let me know what you find.
