Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD Riding Mower Battery, trickle charger, amp meter

Question
I want to buy a trickle charger for my lawn tractor battery. The MTD riding mower I have is about 4 years old. I don't think the battery was ever fully charged, and is now exhibiting signs of "not having enough juice" to start the tractor. I want to try and fully charge it up before giving up on it. The original battery is 725-1704, and indicates it needs about 6 hours at 2amps to charge up. The amp meter on the tractor always indicates it is charging. I have never had it run 6 hours straight. I am assuming that this is a 12v battery. Is this correct,as far as you know?

Answer
Yes, it is a 12 volt battery.  Good job catching the 2 amp rating.

Most people buy a big fast charger but these can overheat the battery cells causing the battery to fail.

A nice float trickle charger is best for mower batteries.  Battery Tender is a good charger but a little pricey.  I'm sure other companies have just as good of chargers.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
