Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): old snowthrower wont start, snowthrower, tecumseh engine

Question
Hi Marc, I recently acquired a 10 year old snowblower that has not been run in the last 8 years (5hp ariens, tecumseh engine, H50 65422L). I replaced the carburetor, fuel line, and spark plug, and greased around the flywheel... Although it appears to be closer to my goal, the engine won't turn over. I thought about spraying carburetor cleaner into the engine block itself to "free up" any varnishing that may have happened on the piston and/or turning the auger to assure it moves freely... Any thoughts as what to do besides rebuilding the engine or throwing it to the curb? Thank you in advance.

Answer
If I understand you correctly, the engine and/or drive assembly is seized?  If it is, I recommend you remove the cover from the drive belt(s) and thoroughly inspect for seized idler pulleys, etc.  You may need to split the 'tractor' part of the blower from the auger assembly to determine where the seizure has occurred.  Let me know what you find (engine or blower).  Hope this helps.
