Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snow thrower-engine start, sears craftsman, recoil starter

Question
I have a sears craftsman 5HP snow thrower model #536.886122. This unit purchsed new-Dec 31, 1996. After the carburator is primed, the recoil starter pulled the engine starts without any problem but dies as soon as the primer fuel is used up. To date I have never had any problems with this unit.

Answer
Hi Thomas,

The carb most likely has dirt, debris or gummed fuel inside.  You will need to remove the carb, disassemble it, clean all the small internal openings and blow it out with compressed air.   Probe each and every hole with a small wire.  A carb rebuild kit wouldn't hurt either.

Let me know how you make out.
