Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsmen 5HP Snowblower, propellars, second snow

Question
My snowblower all of a sudden stopped throwing the snow. When I looked at it only one side of the propellars were turning. The other side the bolt was missing. I replaced thinking that was the problem. When I started running it again it blows the snow for a second then all of a sudden stops turning. In turn snow clogs chute.

If you bang the blower up and down by pushing down on the handles and letting it slam down to the ground it starts turning again. The second snow goes in it stops.

Please help. I am getting bombarded with 20" of snow as we speak. All it is right now is a plow insted of a blower

Answer
Hi Eric,

Sorry for my delay.  Snowed in here too!
You will need to find out what is slipping.  Start with the 2 augers in front, then the high speed impeller that blows the snow up and out of the chute.  Check the belts for damage or slipping.

When you can, replace the missing bolt with a proper "shear pin".  They are designed to break when an object or ice is jammed in the auger.  A regular bolt will do damage if it is needed to shear.

Let me know how you make out.
