Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Riding mower engine, garage fire, mtd

Question
Hi, we recently had a garage fire.  Although our riding mower was not completely burnt, it was close enough to the actual fire for the seat to melt, and all plastic parts to melt.  The oil is like tar. Would you think it is possible to fix this, or would it be better written off, and we just buy a new one?  It is an MTD 38" riding mower.

Answer
Being that it's an MTD, I recommend seeking replacement cost.  By the time you replace all of the plastic parts, wiring harness, fluids, belts, tires and factor in all of the labour, it will likely be cheaper to replace.  There are also many hidden items (bushings, gaskets, etc.) that could have been damaged by the fire.  Hope this helps.
