Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): tecumseh 6.0hp OHV starts then shuts off, ariens snowblower, internal passages

Question
Hello Marc, my name is Paul and I have an Ariens snowblower(model no.624) with a Tecumseh 4 cycle OHV 6hp engine. It started a few days ago, but now it starts and shuts off immediately, it wont stay running. I left the choke on full, it started and shut off immediately. I even tried to change the choke settings, and I got the same response. The snowblower has fresh gasoline, and there is plenty of gas in the tank. I tried the electric start and got the same answer. If there is a number of different possibilities, or just some common problem with these engines, let me know what you think the problem could be. Thanks Marc

Answer
If the engine runs on choke only, the carb needs to be cleaned thoroughly.  This is common for a seasonal piece of equipment that may not have been completely drained of fuel.  Use a piece of tag wire to push through all of the internal passages in the carb (be very thorough as some are in difficult locations) and follow up with aerosol carb cleaner.  Hope this helps.
