Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda HS724 Snowblower Wont Start, gas vapors, sediment trap

Question
Eric: I purchased the pull start Honda HS724 in Dec 2003 and after the snow, started the machine every other month and ran for 10 mins or so (last time Oct. 2004). Now the machine won't start. I drained the fuel, cleaned out the sediment trap and filled with fresh gas. Not a peep. Service people suggested removing plug to see if there is a spark. Is there a problem with gas vapors exploding or what do you suggest? Thanks.

Answer
Generally no, but I have had a couple of chainsaws catch fire due to vapors in the cylinder with the plug removed.

The best and safety method to check the ignition is with an inline spark tester.  You can purchase inline spark testers at most auto parts stores for a few bucks.

Have you tried replacing the spark plug?  We frequently find bad plugs.

Let me know.
