Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): CRAFTSMAN 32CC BLOWER/VACUUM, 2 stroke engines, crankcase pressure

Question
WILL START BUT DIES AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. IF I PULL THE STARTER A FEW TIMES WITH THE IGNITION OFF, THEN SWITHCH IT ON AND PULL THE STARTER IT WILL RUN AT HIGH RPMS FOR A MOMENT AND THEN DIE. AFTER THAT IT WILL START BUT NOT AT HIGH RPM OR ANY THROTTLE ABOVE IDLE. WILL IDLE FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AFTER STARTING IF NO THROTTLE GIVEN. CHOKE HAS LITTLE EFFECT. I HAVE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUG, REMOVED AND TAKEN APART AND CLEANED THE CARB, CLEAN AIR FILTER, CLEANED AND FINALLY REMOVED ENTIRELY THE FUEL FILTER, TRIED ALL SORTS OF ADJUSTMENTS BUT I AM AT A LOSS.......... HELP. PLEASE.

Answer
Hi Brett,

Small 2 stroke engines used on blowers and trimmers do not have a long life.  Unless the item is name brand and commercial grade, it usually not worth much time or expense.

Now, the good news...maybe.  You can try squirting fuel or starting fluid into the carb intake.  If you can keep it running, then this test confirms a lack of fuel flow to the engine.  Usually a result of a dirty carb or worn carb parts, specifically, the diaphram.
Another possible cause might be a worn crankshaft seal which would cause a lean condition and result in poor running.  A crankcase pressure test is required to determine this.

Let me know how you make out.
