Question -
i found a honda front wheel drive mower
the belt was off and i put it back on
now it knocks i think the belt may be lose
other wise it runs fine
Answer -
Hi Paul,

A defective belt sometimes causes strange sounds.  If the belt is okay and not slipping, then I would remove the access cover on the drive and take a look.  You might find a missing tooth on a gear or another broken part.

Let me know how you make out.

Answer
Hmmm,  It would be difficult to repair the cracks.  The cracked housing may be allowing the gear to slip and ratchet or the cracked edges themselves may be making the noise.  I guess you could run it as is, if the drive works and just makes noise.  You could also remove the belt and use it as a push mower.

Best,
Michael
