Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Damn kids!, damn kids, gas tank

Question
I have a 6.0 craftsman 21in. mulcher/lawn mower. I believe its a 2000 modle. My three year old son thought it  would be a good idea to put rocks out of the yard into the gas tank. I removed the rocks,so I thought. Anyway two weeks later I put new gas in it and pulled the cord numerous times and it will not start, now its siezed up. This lawnmower has been very faithful,I havent had any problems with it thus far. Is it possible a small enough rock went through the gas line into the motor and jammed it up some how? What do recomened?

Answer
It's highly unlikely as the rock would have to pass through a 0.050" or less diameter orifice to get inside the engine and even then a particle this size wouldn't likely hurt anything.  Remove the spark plug and keep the plug wire away from the hole.  Try turning the engine over now.  It is likely that debris under the inlet needle is causing the engine to flood with fuel and hydraulically lock.  You would have to remove and clean the carb (and fuel tank) thoroughly.  Kids....gotta love them!  Hope this helps.
