QuestionA simple push button start would be sufficient but a key switch would be desirable; so please let me have both system.
There are no letters on the rear of the switch but numbers 1,2 and 3.
I understand that LUCAS system use the followings:
1 = White/Red goes to the solenoid switch,
2 = White goes to the +ve of ignition coil,
3 = Brown/Blue goes to the solenoid (connected to +ve of Battery).
The solenoid itself is earthed accordingly.
My problem is that I cannot find the +ve of the ignition coil.
I also want to install a kill switch.
I have browsed through http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/index.php, and shall place an order for the relevant pieces from them soon.
In the meantime, please help me with the wiring fot he tachometer.

I have just purchased a brand new Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 20 hp twin cylinder for use in my hovercraft project. The model number is 351777.
Can you help me with the wiring (key-start and with a solenoid)for ignition system and kill switch.
I also intend to install a tachometer in my hovercraft. Can I use a tachometer used in a 4-cylinder automobile?

Are you planning on using a simple push button start or a key switch? If you are planning on using a key switch, do you have it? If so, what letters are on the back of the key switch?
An auto sytle tach will not work, but a Tiny Tach will.

AnswerThe tach should just wrap around one of the spark plug leads.
As for the switch, the +ve ignition coil should connect to the coil. Look on the engine for a single, usually black wire. This wire is normally bolted to the engine block and has a push-on spade type connector. When you turn the key off the switch should ground the ignition coil cutting off the spark...you do not need any 12 volts.
Do you have one or two small terminals on your solenoid?
Do you have a volt meter?
