 Hello Tom:

Send me the Complete Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you. However, you can Replace the Starter Rope. Remove the Blower Housing(metal engine cover) from the Engine. Look Into the Blower Housing and Remove the Old Rope from the Starter Pulley. After the Old Rope is Removed, then Turn the Pulley Towards the Opening that the Rope Extends Out of the Housing. When the Pulley will No Longer Turn; Back the Pulley Up 1 or 2 Turns and then Thread the New Rope through the Hole in the Pulley and Out the Hole of the Blower Housing. Tie a Slip Knot in the Rope to Hold the Rope and Pulley in Place while the Handle is Attached. Release the Slip Knot and the Rope Should Retract into the Housing. This is the Usual Tecumseh Recoil Rope Replacement Procedure. The Model Numbers will Allow me to View a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you if this Procedure is Incorrect for this Engine. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Tom:

Go to this Addy http://landscapepower.com/ and Select the Tecumseh Engine Parts List on the Left Side of the Page. Then Enter the Spec #156505C and Click Go. Then Select Download File. The Staple Must be Removed from the Plastic Pulley and a Knot Tied in the End of the New Rope. Diagram #100 is the Ignition Module/Coil. Remove the Coil Stop Wire and Turn the Engine. If the Plug Fires, then the Stop Wire or Stop Switch is Bad. If No Fire at the Plug, then the Coil is Bad. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.
