Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): drive belt, craftsman model, tight spots

Question
How can I install the drive belt on my riding mower without taken the rear axle lose from the frame?  My mower is a Craftsman Model: 502.255011. It is the first time the belt has broken.

Answer
You shouldn't have to remove the rear axle to change this belt.  However, I will warn you that it is not a fun job to replace the drive belt as you may have to remove guide fingers, etc. and fish the belt around some tight spots to get it installed.  This may involve remove some of the panels on the tractor to gain access and you may need to have the tractor tipped up on end to accomplish this.  You may want to consider getting a shop to do it.  If you are inclined, though, you can get it changed.  Hope this helps.
