Question -
how do you adjust the timing on a 14 hp rider B@S ? B@S OHV . I have went to the compression stroke and then going clockwise I went one fourth more and set the gap at 5 and 4 and 3 yet it still back fires as out of time . am i doing this wrong? what is the best way to do this and where is the place I set the valves
Answer -
the only way to adjust the timing is internally or with an offset key. did you check the timing key? to set the valves you need to bring it to top dead center on the compression stroke the adjusters are the pivot part of the rocker assy. they have  torx set screw in the middle

I understand that you get to the compression stroke and make the adjustment , do you make a 1/4 turn and then make adjustment ? If not that is what I have been doing wrong

Answer
no they should be done on the compression stroke and prefferably warm also if possible. they should be set at .007 and .005 exhaust and intake respectively this should solve your problem. make sure the studs are tight in the head also, ive had some come loose. if they are loose, degrease them and the threads, and use some red loctite on them.
