Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): NO Spark, john deere 170, 5k ohms

Question
Kawasaki FC420V
Electronic Spark Ignition
Is there a way to test the ignition coil?  I think the new one might be bad.
Thanks again
Nick

I have a John Deere 170 that was working one day then not the next.  Did some test and found that i wasn't getting any spark. So got to the ignition coil and remove the white wire <think that was safety kill switch> and still no spark.
Bought a replacement ignition coil and adjusted the distance.  Still no Spark.  What else could it be?  How does the ignition coil get its 12 volts; I see the magnet for timing? What I'm I missing.  I see other line with 12 volts but i don't know where and how to get to them.

Thanks for your Help

What engine is on your mower?
Does the engine have an automotive type ignition coil?
Let me know.

Answer
To check the coil, you will need an OHM meter.

Primary terminal to the metal core/lamenants should be 0.67 -1.10 ohms.

Secondary coil, spark plug lead to the core should be 6.0k-10.0k ohms.

The control unit should read 1-5k ohms  from terminal to case.  The manual also says, "NOTE: This check may not cover ever defect".

I have found some Kawasaki's to measure within spec but still not work...very aggravating!

Does this help?
