Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Legend 3.8 HP mower, tilt, several times

Question
Mower starts and runs fine on level ground, uphill, downhill, etc. However, every time I go downhill with tilt to the left the mower dies. Will start again after put on level ground and pull several times. Some black smoke comes out exhaust when it starts so this tells me it is flooding out on a downhill left tilt. Downhill straight or with a right tilt is fine, just a downhill left tilt is a problem. I have cleaned carb, bowel, etc but it makes no difference. Any ideas? Thanks. Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,

Depending whether it is flooding or starving,  most likely the carb float needs re-setting.  The float should be level with the carb body.  If it is level now, then set it to open more if starving and vice versa.  I suspect it is starving.  Note: If the mowing angle is very steep it may just be too much for the carb to handle.

Let me know how you make out.
