Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler k161t engine, aftermarket conversions, troybilt tiller

Question
I plan on using the Kohler engine (k161t) I took off my Troybilt tiller to put on my son's gokart. The engine has not been used for about 15/20 years. When i tried to start it there was no spark. I removed the flywheel, sanded the flywheel and coil. I changed the capasiter. Do they make an electronic ignition for this engine? Also is there any way to extend the crankshaft? The engine sits about 1/2" to far from the sprocket but I can pull the clutch about 1/2" off the shaft and everything lines up.

Answer
There are companies that make aftermarket conversions to electronic but you will have to look around to find one for your engine.  The points and condensor ignition is very reliable once it is fully maintained so I wouldn't rush out for a conversion.  If you need to extend the crankshaft, I would recommend having a machine shop make up an adapter of whatever size you need to bolt onto the crank for the clutch to attach to.  Hope this helps.
