Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower, exhaust port, speed settings

Question
It started and ran well for about 30 seconds.  I have not been able to start it since.   I checked the spark plug connection and also tried removing the exhaust port with the same results.

Question -
I have a new Murray 6.0 hp push lawnmower.  After a few mows, it seems to me to be idling (not running well --- choking)and using alot more gas.  I have played with the speed settings as best I can with no success.

It sounds like the carburetor is not working correctly. It really sounds like the carburetor is running rich which normally does not happen...carbs generally run lean.

Have you cleaned the carburetor and replaced the spark plug?
