Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman weed trimmer, craftsman weed trimmer, float bowl

Question
Craftsman 22" weed trimmer
5.0 Tecumseh

Since the last email I have drained the gas (fresh gas) and used a carburetor cleaner.  Now when I start the motor and hold the primer button in the motor keeps running and one time I was actually able to let go of the button and the motor ran fine...any clues.

Thanks,
Scott

Answer
It is a classic dirty carburetor problem. You need to remove the float bowl nut located on the bottom of the carburetor and clean the float bowl nut.  I normally drain all the fuel because fuel will flow out of the carb bowl when you remove the nut.  The other option is to use hose pinch-off plyers to clamp off the fuel line.

Most of the time cleaning the bowl nut will solve the problem.  If it does not, then the carb will have to be removed and cleaned.

Be carefull re-installing the float bowl nut...the nut is brass and the carb threads are aluminum...DO NOT overtighten the nut and strip the threads.

Let me know what happens.
