Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Repair on Homelite Leaf Blower, bristle brush, tea spoon
QuestionI have a homelite bp250 leaf blower. I stored it for a while, then brought it back into commission. I used it for a while, but then I noticed the fuel lines had rotted. There was a recall on this particular one. Anyway, I replaced the fuel lines, and the primer bulb, which had also rotted. Now I have new fuel lines, and a new primer bulb, but it won't run. I can get it to fire by using starting fluid, but then it only runs on the fuel sprayed in. I cannot get the primer bulb to get wet, I cannot get fuel in it.
It seems to me that the engine is not getting any fuel. What should I do to troubleshoot? Keep in mind it ran before I changed out the fuel lines and the primer bulb. I think the main thing is that we are not getting fuel to the carb. I pulled the air cleaner off, pumped the primer, and saw no fuel. Any help is appreciated.
AnswerHello Tod,
It sounds like a passage in the carb is not letting in any fuel because of clogging. What you should do for this particular blower is remove the carb, take a metal bristle brush that looks kind of like a pipe cleaner but in metal form and run the wire through all the holes in the carb. Then pour plain gasoline I would say about a tea spoon the run the wire brush through again. Remember you MUST clean every small hole in the carb. If you would like to go a step further get a can of compressed air and blow out all of the holes in the carb. All of the materials can be found at a hardware store. Hope this helps!
