Motorcycle Repair: cv carb jetting, slow jet, intermediate jet

Question
Hi,
I have an '04 1200c with about 4300 miles on it.  I have put on the SE II slip-ons, swapped out the slow jet, and put on the SE hi-flow kit.  I seem to be using a little oil, and since I did the pipes and hi-flo, seems to be struggling at low speeds/rpms.  (coughs, putts, acts like it isn't getting the fuel it needs) I am thinking I should change the main jet.  I don't know what size the stock main is (without popping off the bowl, anyway), and need a recommendation for a starting point for a new main, or other suggestions.  I'm sure you've been through this 1000 times, maybe I'm overlooking something.
Thanx, Chris  (also in Ohio)

Answer
Lets start from the begining. You bike cam fromt he dealer a little lean to pass EPA standards. You changed the mufflers and air kit, so what you did was make the bike even leaner. You never said what slow jet you put in, but what you need to do is put in a bigger slow jet. From what you are saying sounds like your are still lean. At low RPMs (less then 3000) you run on the slow or intermediate jet. So there is where your problem lies.
Here is my best suggestion. Go get a Dyna-jet kit. In it you will find the jets you need and also some other changes to make to the carb which will give you more throttle responce and set the jet right. The directions are in the kit and are easy to follow. The work should take you about an hour to an hour and a half.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
