Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Carb adjustments, adjustment screws, carb adjustments

Question
I have a 8hp B&S engine i did a repair kit on the carb and clean it, iput it back on and it seems to be getting to much gas,i checked the float and it seems to be ok no leaks. Do you think i just need to adjust the carb,it starts but as soon as i open the choke a very little the engine dies

Answer
I would make sure the float level is correct by removing the carb from the engine, then remove the carburetor float bowl and turn the carburetor upside down; the float should appear level when the carb us turned upside down.

You may want to just try adjusting the carb to save some time.  Start by turning the adjustment screws out 1.5 turns out from the GENTLY seated position.

Let me know what happens.
