Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gas blower wont keep running, water in the fuel, fuel flow

Question
My husband can't keep the gas blower running. He had a hard time getting it to start. Finally changed the gas and it started and ran for a long time. Then when he tried to start it again, it wouldn't keep running. He can get it to start now, it just cuts off quickly. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Carolyn,

There is most likely a problem with the fuel flow to the engine.  Common causes are a blockage in the tank to carb fuel line or dirt, debris or gummed fuel in the carb.  The carb may need to be disassembled and cleaned with carb cleaner, then blown out with compressed air.  Make sure that there is no water in the fuel.

Let me know how you make out.
