I understand what you're saying about cleaning the carb. My problem is this, where and what does it look like and how do I get it off. Do you have any pictures? I would really like to do this myself.
Answer -
If you can locate the air filter, the carb is what it is attached to. You should locate a parts diagram using the model numbers from the engine. Most parts manuals for most makes of engines are available online if you search for the manufacturer (ie. Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, Kohler, etc.) You should have this information before you proceed with any disassembly. As long as you are meticulous in your work, this job can be completely fairly easily. Hope this helps.
If I can;'t get an air filter, out of stock, is there any way, what kind of solvent can I use to clean the old one?
AnswerI assume you are referring to a separate issue because I mentioned the air filter in order to locate the carb. At any rate, if it's a paper filter and you can't see daylight through it after shaking it out, it will need to be replaced. If it is a foam filter, it can be washed with dish detergent and water, dried and re-oiled. You oil a foam filter by pouring a teaspoon of motor oil on the filter and squeezing it into the filter.
