Question -
The fuel mix on my Echo SRM-210 grass timmer is too rich, leaving a heavy residue of oil at the exhaust port and housing after each use.  Can you tell me how I can adjust the carburetor to get the right mix?

Thanks for your information.

Which carb to you have?  Wal-bro or Zama?

Let me know.

Sorry.  It's a Zama.   Thanks.

Answer
Generally the oily residue is left over from too rich of an oil/gas mixture.  I use a 40:1 mix ratio in my Echo and there is very little residue.

If the trimmer runs good, idles good and does not hesitate from idle to wide open throttle, then the carburetor is adjusted correctly.

To adjust the carb, GENTLY seat both hi and low speed needles by turning them clockwise.  Use your fingers or a very small screwdriver.  Over tighting the needles can damage the carburetor.

After they are gently seated, turn them out, counter clockwise 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 turns.  These are the initial settings.  You will have to fine tune the carburetor after the intial setting.

Like I said, if the trimmer is running good, I would make sure the mix is 40:1 and not adjust the carburetor.  My Zama on the Echo trimmer is very sensitive due to its age and constantly needs a fine adjustment almost every time I use it.  Fine adjustments should be 1/8 or less turns from the initial adjustments.

Let me know what you decide to do.
