Question: Older 5 hp Briggs and Stratton, after
removing the cover over the flywheel, there is
a Bearing on the shaft wich must be removed before
removing the flywheel. how is the Bearing held on
to the shaft? with a keeper or does it just
pry off. Or must you take the bearing apart
to get to the keeper. Thanks

Answer
I believe you are referring to the starter clutch.  Using a strap wrench on the flywheel to hold it, take a hammer and blunt punch and deliver a sharp hit to one of the larger tabs on the starter clutch housing (it is a normal RH thread so CCW takes it off).  Then the clutch should thread off easily.  If you have any difficulty, take it to a shop and they can remove it for you.  Then you can remove the flywheel.  Pay close attention to the orientation of the compression washer underneath the starter clutch when you re-assemble it (it installs cup down).  Hope this helps.
