Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Chain Saw Wont Start, squirt bottle, poulan 2150

Question
I have a Poulan 2150 Chainsaw that won't start. I had it running yesterday morning and I set it down so I can begin splitting some of the logs. I picked it back up and pulled the starter cord. The saw started and almost immediately stalled. Then it wouldn't start at all. So I gave it another tune-up (changed the plug, filter, etc.) But, it still won't start. I checked using a screwdriver to see it its getting spark from the coil wire to the plug. I am getting a bright blue spark. I then checked the plug and again I am getting a White and Blue spark. I am getting plenty of fuel in the piston. I am completely baffled by this. I can't even get this thing to start when I use a little ether. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help

Answer
If you have spark and you have introduced fuel into the engine (ether), the problem is most likely related to compression.  I recommend you remove the muffler and verify that the exhaust ports and muffler aren't plugged with carbon.  While you do this, inspect the piston and ring(s) through the exhaust port.  If it is scuffed badly, you will be low on compression.  Note:  do not use ether on a two-stroke engine....it has no lubrication and can cause a fatal lean condition for the engine.  Use a small squirt bottle of mixed fuel if you are trying to introduce fuel into the engine.  Hope this helps.
