Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sears Craftman Lawn Tractor, sears craftman, craftman lawn tractor

Question
When I try to start my lawn tractor, I hear only a click noise but nothing happens.  I removed the battery, checked the water level, put in on an overnight slow charge.  I also cleaned all of the battery cables and connections.  I still only hear a click.  When I use my booster battery, I clamped the postive cable to the red cable at the starter and then the black cable to the ground. The engine started immediately. Could this be the solenoid switch?

Answer
If it starts with another battery attached to the tractor's battery (how you would boost it), the battery in the machine is the problem.  If it doesn't start with the booster battery connected to the machine's battery and you only hear a click, the solenoid may be faulty.  Connecting a separate battery to the starter only proves the starter works.  Hope this helps.
