I have cleaned the carb, replaced the spark plug, cleaned the valves, changed the oil and my mower still will not run.  It is a Honda HR215HXA Masters series about 4 years old.  When I try to start it sounds like it wants to go but just won't catch, it sometimes will sputter two or three times with the exhaust a chalky, grayish, white.  It has been sitting in the garage for about 2 years but the gas was drained.  Please Help.

Thanks,
Kerry

First, check the blade brake switch is properly adjusted with the cable.  If this is OK and the engine will start with a squirt of fuel in the carb, the carb will need to be cleaned thoroughly, including pushing a piece of tag wire through all of the internal passages.  Hope this helps.

I've cleaned the carb and the engine is getting lots of gas.  When I take the spark plug out, it is saturated with gas after only 5 pulls.  It does not seem to be getting any spark.  I've turned the flywheel manually and it has plenty of compression.  I've cleaned all of the rust off the flywheel but still not even a sign of life.  I am not sure where the blade brake switch is at, could you help me locate it and give any suggestions to help get this honda mowing again.  Thank you for all of your help.

If you follow the cable from the blade brake handle down to the attachment point on the engine, you should see the switch in that vicinity.  From there you should see which way you need to adjust the cable to make the switch work properly.  Hold the blade brake handle down and observe whether the switch is depressed or released.  Whichever it is, make sure the cable is adjusted so it is either fully depressed or fully released.  If you still have no spark, the switch may be defective.  If you suspect the switch is defective, disconnect it and check for spark.  If you still have no spark, the ignition module may be defective.  Let me know what you find.  Hope this helps.

Some how I got the mower to start running.  I guess the problem continues to be the mower is getting flooded with gas.  I got it started by setting the mower on choke and pulling the chord about five times.  Then I took the spark plug out, cleaned all of the gas off spark plug and blow dried it with a hair drier for a couple of minutes.  When I put it back into the engine I set it from choke to run and it would start after a couple of pulls but was running very very weakly.  After shutting off the engine I removed the spark plug and it had an oily black on the tip of the spark plug.  Also, when the mower was running it had a backflow of gas wanting to leave the carb into the air filter chamber.  I tried opening up the valve closest to the engine in the carb with the air chamber valve wide open and the engine stalled.  I think the problem seems to be too much gas and too little air, but how can I fix this when the engine stalls.  Please help.

Answer
If you have raw fuel flowing out of the carb, there is an issue with the needle and seat (and possibly the float) not sealing off the flow of fuel at the proper level in the float bowl.  Make sure the inlet needle looks good and the float isn't full of fuel (shake it and listen) and there is no debris under the needle in the carb.  Hope this helps.
