Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet lawn tractor, cub cadet lawn, interstate battery

Question
I recently purchased a used Cub Cadet #1020 (10 hp). The mower will start if jumped from my car battery, but will not start from the new Interstate battery I purchased.  I charged the battery before installing it. It runs fine when I start it from my car, but if I turn it off and try to restart, all I hear is a clicking sound.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
I would first have the new battery you purchased fully charged and load tested to ensure it isn't defective (any good shop or parts store can do this).  If the battery is fine and your tractor starts with a boost, I suspect either the starter is the problem or something is causing the engine to be more difficult to turn over (excess oil in crankcase, dragging belts, etc.).  The extra amperage available from your car battery may be able to overcome additional drag but the smaller battery may not.  Hope this helps.
