Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & stratton trouble starting, briggs stratton, combustion chamber

Question
I have a briggs & stratton 5.5hp ohv engine fitted to a generator.  I recently massively overfilled the engine oil and ran the engine with clouds of white smoke for about 3 minutes. Realising what I had done I drained the oil to the correct level.  Now when I start the engine it seems to lock up and nearly pulls my fingers of.  With forcefull pulling the engine still starts and runs sweetly.  I had the engine de-coked which I'm told it badly needed due to the oil I put in but still has this massive compression when starting;
Do you have any ideas please.

Answer
You probably still have some oil in the combustion chamber.  Remove the spark plug and pull the string over several times to remove excess oil.

You may alse want to remove the muffler and drain the oil from it.  You can even spray some brake cleaner through the muffler once it is removed to help clean out the oil.

Let me know what happens.
