Acura Repair: 1990 Acura Integra cooling system, acura integra, radiator

Question
Hi.  I recently bought a 90 Integra and don't know much of it's history except I am the second owner.
I was driving a few months back when I noticed temp gauge quickly rising to the red while stopped at light.  Temp quickly went down when started moving again.  Assumed maybe fans weren't coming on.
Took it in to my mechanic who ran tests, and drove it around for a couple few miles, let the car sit and idle watching the gauge, but was normal, it didn't rise.
Over the the next few months, never had the problem until yesterday.  Same thing temp starts to skyrocket at idle and returns to normal the second the car barely starts to move.  I checked to see if the fans came on while in idle and they did, but temp still quickly rises.  Any idea?  Thanks.  Oh, someone said maybe there's something stuck in the radiator...do you think?  If so, what then?  Lisa

Answer
-a clogged radiator is possible for an old car.
-it could be weak fans. if they aren't blowing with some force.
-a sticking thermostat that doesnt open fully. when driving you are revving higher which will flow more (same applies to clogged radiator).

try letting it get 3/4's and turn on the heater. if that helps the fans need to be double checked. or you could be looking at a radiator, but i wont commit to anything on overheating without seeing personally.
