Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine idles but wont rev up, compression test, blade

Question
when I try to give it throttle it backfires or dies I allready cleaned the carb don't think its a fuel problem

Answer
Hi James,

Backfiring usually indicates a timing or valve problem.  The flywheel key might have partially sheared throwing off the timing.  This can happen if something was recently hit with the blade.  A valve might be leaking.  Do a compression test or inspect the valves for seating and clearance.

Let me know how you make out.
