Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower wont start, hp motor, new spark

Question
I have a Murray self-propelled mower purchased at Walmart about 3 years ago. It has a 6.0 hp motor, electric start. Not used at all last year, but gas and oil was drained while stored in garage. This year I charged the battery, installed new spark plug, fresh gas, oil, pushed the prime bulb per instructions, but it wouldn't start. Tried several times, no success. Any suggestions as to what I could try next?  Appreciate your help.

Answer
Rberry, remove the air cleaner filter, spray a little starting fluid in the throat....If it starts - runs briefly and quits, the carp is badly clogged with varnish...if it still does not start, check for spark.....if no spark, be sure the kill wire is ungrounding when the flywheel break is activated (bale down - run position) Last, if spark, add fluid = no run....you may have a sheared flywheel key (less likly) let me know,,,GL  Bob
