Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsmen Mower, eager 1, soft brass

I have a Craftsmen 6.25 HP Eager 1 lawn mower, model 917.377211 - the problem is that it will not stay running.  You can keep it running if you keep pushing the primer.   Thanks for any help and insite that you can give!

Carburetor.  Drain the fuel from the tank.  Remove the carburetor float bowl nut, located on the bottom of the carburetor.  Have a rag or container handy because gas will drain out of the bowl as you remove the nut.

Clean nut.  Re-install bowl nut being careful not to strip the soft brass bowl nut.  Re-fill fuel tank.  Start.

If it does the same thing, then you will have to remove, disassemble and clean the carburetor.
