Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn tractor wont drive, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Craftsman 25.0 HP lawn tractor model #917.272262 with a Briggs & Stratton engine model #445777.  There seems to be a problem somewhere in the ground drive - when drive or reverse pedal are pushed there is a loud groaning sound from the mower and no movement.  However, when I reach underneath and jiggle the brake rod it will allow the tractor to operate normally.  The only trouble is it can take a lot of tries to jiggle it just to where it fixes the issue and allows movement of the tractor.  Thanks for any help on this frustrating problem.

Answer
I would check the mounting hardware for the brake rod/lever assembly.

It is possible there is an adjustment or one of the connecting ends are loose or worn.  You will probably have to remove the connections to check for wear.

Do you have the owers manual?  Some hydrostatic transaxles are servicable, but most are not...the manual should tell you.  The picture looks like an un-servicable tranaxle.
How old it the mower? Have you replaced the drive belt?
Let me know what you find.
