Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn tractor transaxle problem, craftsman lawn tractor, shifting gears

Question
I have a 1995 Craftsman lawn tractor model no. 917.252500 and had a problem shifting gears. Now it will not go forward or reverse. The belt looks ok but the transaxle pulley is under the battery compartment and it is very rusty and needs to be replaced. How can I remove this pulley so I can check the Shifter assembly and gears. I can not afford new lawn tractor and can get parts from Sears online but I need help or instructions on how to proceed. Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks

Push it!

Have you seen my other answers to questions?  They are horrific at best.  I almost don't believe what comes out of my own mouth.  What would truly make you think that I can answer this question?  Is it because of my good looks?  Oh yeah I am a real looker. hahahahahhaha

Just kidding.  Always have to lighten the mood before I ram it home! www.sears.com or www.diy.com.  They can both explain better than I can, ah who needs em.  I would rather watch the movie than read the book.  You can probably even pull up the schematics for attaching a flux capacitor for better crank power, but WHY?  What ever you do don't pull the thing apart without a digital camera handy.  You can take pictures which will help you put the gear assembly back together.  Always works for me.  Even though I have been doing this for a long time I still to this day forget where some parts go.  Those normally end up in the Koi Pond I have in the back yard after some foul language I don't care to go into right now.
